Accessibility

Diversity on Board exists to widen who reaches the boardroom, and a site about inclusion that excludes its own readers would fail its purpose. This page states the standard we build against, what you can adjust, what we know is imperfect and how to tell us when something is in your way.

The standard

The site is built to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA, the level the European standard EN 301 549 and most public procurement rules reference. Conformance is built into the pages rather than added by a plugin: we deliberately use no third-party accessibility overlay, because the assistive-technology community has documented that overlays interfere with the screen readers and magnifiers people already run.

How it is tested

Automated checks run against every page before each deployment: the axe accessibility engine at WCAG 2 A and AA, in two browser engines, at desktop and phone widths, together with checks for invisible text, keyboard focus, layout breakage and touch targets of at least 44 pixels. A deployment does not go out with a failing check. Alongside the automation, keyboard navigation, reduced motion and screen-reader output are reviewed by hand when a page changes substantially. What you can adjust

The Display and access control in the footer of every page sets text size, stronger contrast, underlined links and reduced motion. Your choices are stored in this browser only and apply across the site. Your operating system’s own settings for reduced motion and increased contrast are honoured whether or not you touch that control.

What we know is imperfect

The home page opens with a scroll-driven film that requires JavaScript; with JavaScript unavailable, the content of the site remains reachable through the navigation, and with reduced motion set, the film stands still. Titles and organisation names in French and Arabic are marked with their language so screen readers pronounce them correctly, while the site’s own interface is currently English only, which we recognise is a real limit for an Arabic-speaking region and intend to address. Listings and library sources link to external sites whose accessibility we do not control.
